Intent: demonstrate
Legacy giving recognition should feel quietly prestigious, not transactional. Use the templates below to invite donors into a legacy society, confirm recognition preferences, and present planned giving commitments on your donor wall in a way that respects privacy.
When to Use This
- You’re formalizing a legacy society and need consistent invitation language
- You want a donor wall section that honors planned gifts without showing amounts
- You need a governance approach for anonymity, couples, and “intent vs documentation”

SUBJECT: An invitation to the [Legacy Society Name]
Dear [First Name],
Thank you for your commitment to the future of [Organization]. We are honored that you have included [Organization] in your legacy planning.
In recognition of your intention, we would like to welcome you to the [Legacy Society Name], a community of donors who help ensure that [mission/outcome] continues for generations.
With your permission, we would also like to recognize you on our donor recognition display. Our standard public listing format is:
[Preferred Public Listing]
If you prefer to remain anonymous, we can list your recognition as “Anonymous.”
If you’re comfortable, please reply with:

2) whether you would like to be publicly recognized or remain anonymous.
With gratitude,

DonorsWall implementation notes (legacy-specific)
- Create a Legacy Society section that is name-based (not amount-based).
- Add a short “what legacy giving means” explainer to reduce visitor confusion.
- Use tiered access so only authorized staff can edit legacy commitments and privacy settings.
- Maintain ADA WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility across society pages and filters.
